YOUTH GROUPS AT
Smith Church sponsors three youth groups – A.W.P. (Awesome Wonderful People) for grades 4 & 5, RBA for grades 6 - 8, and InCasts for grades 9 - 12. All groups are open to all youth in Hillsboro and the surrounding communities, and thrive on the representation of youth from all church affiliations (or no affiliation). We capitalize on those qualities that all faiths have in common.
A.W.P. meets once a month on Sunday nights from 6:30-7:30 PM downstairs at Smith Church. The first meeting of this season will be Sunday, September 12th. If you need more information about this group and/or are interested in joining, please contact Barbara Daley (464-5239 or bdaley@tds.net) or Kathy Otten (464-2026 or otten314@tds.net) or feel free to just come to the first meeting on September 12th.
Both RBA and InCasts meet every Tuesday night in the downstairs of Smith Church – RBA from 6 - 7:30 PM and InCasts from 7:15 - 9 PM. The 15- minute overlap time allows for interaction between the two groups. The first meeting of the year for these groups will be Tuesday night, September 7th. If you need more information about either of these two older youth groups, and/or are interested in joining, please contact Barbara Daley (464-5239 or bdaley@tds.net or just come to the first meeting on September 7th!
RBA
The first meeting of RBA (September 7th from 6-7:30 PM) will include a cookout for RBA members and their families. We’ll provide the hot dogs, burgers and drinks; please bring a potluck dish to share. We would LOVE some parents to help with the cookout– please call or email Barbara if you are willing to help organize this event. We will kick off this year with a “getting to know you” weekend at Fran Charron’s family cottage on Peak’s Island off the coast of Portsmouth, Maine on Friday-Sunday, September 17-19. Informational letters will be going out in the mail to last year’s RBA members as well as the incoming 6th graders from the 4th and 5th grade youth group- if you might be interested in joining or you know someone else who might be, please let us know and we’ll send you/them the information as well.
InCasts
The first meeting of InCasts will be September 7th from 7:15-9 PM. There MAY be leftovers that night from the above-mentioned RBA cookout(!) but if not, we’ll at least provide a snack for you that night. This summer the InCasts took an 8 day sightseeing trip to Canada, visiting Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Niagara Falls – many thanks to Bob Charron for his tireless driving and good humor. Four of our seniors graduated this past June and we look forward to hearing about their adventures in college and elsewhere this year. We remind them that “Once an InCast, always as InCast” and that they are always welcome to join us in our Tuesday night circle. We are excited to welcome our new freshmen to InCasts and know that September will bring new ideas and adventures from our new Incast group. We’ll be starting our season with a “getting to know you” camping adventure to Lafayette State Park in the White Mountains from Friday, September 24th –Sunday, September 26th. Those in last year’s InCast group, and the incoming freshmen from RBA, will be getting letters in the mail soon- again, please let Toni or Barbara know if you might be interested in joining the group or know someone else who might be so we can send you the information.
